Opportunities and Threats to Widespread Adoption of Bacterial Standards for Agricultural Water

Within the proposed Food Safety Modernization Act Produce Safety Rule are new standards for the maximum allowable concentration of the indicator bacteria, Escherichia coli, in agricultural water used on covered crops. This will be first time that microbiological standards will be imposed on millions of acre feet of water for many growers across the United States.
